More than 200 individuals have filed lawsuits against Wen Hair Care alleging the product causes hair loss. Wen Hair Care was invented by Los Angeles-based hairstylist Chaz Dean and has been endorsed by various celebrities, include Alyssa Milano and Brooke Shields.
The product is marketed as a “healthy hair care system” that “moisturizes, soothes, strengthens, and adds sheen” without exposing hair to harsh chemicals.
A class action lawsuit was filed against Guthy-Renker in July 2014 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The lawsuit claims Wen Hair Care actually uses “numerous harsh chemicals” that can cause bald patches and rashes.
The lawsuit further alleges that the company removed negative reviews and comments from its Facebook page regarding potential hair loss.
Wen Hair Care issued the following statement regarding the lawsuit in November:
We take great pride in the quality of our products and believe every product meets our high standards. … Importantly, there is no scientific evidence to support any claim that our hair care products caused anyone to lose their hair. There are many reasons why individuals may lose their hair, all unrelated to WEN hair products. We intend to vigorously contest the allegations made against our products. And, we encourage any customer with any questions to contact us.
